Draws for the preliminary rounds of 2016 Confederation of African Football (CAF) Champions League and Confederations Cup will be conducted on Friday, November 11 in Dakar Senegal.
This will be the 52 edition of the champions league and the 20th edition under the current format.
55 teams each from the 56 member associations of CAF will take part in the two competitions – 12 highest ranked FAs are eligible to enter two teams in the competitions.
In Kenya, 15 times league champions Gor Mahia will for the third time in a row carry the national flag in the elite competition while neighbors Uganda and Tanzania will be represented by Vipers Sports Club and Young Africans SC respectively.
Ethiopia,Burundi,Rwanda and South Sudan will be represented by St. George, Vital’O, APR and Altabara in that order.
Sudan will send two teams to the competition namely El Merreikh and Al Hilal.
Champions league winner will qualify for the 2016 FIFA Club World Cup, and earn a right to play in the 2017 CAF Super Cup against the winner of the confederations Cup.
TP Mazembe of Congo DR are the reigning Champions League winners while Etoile Du Sahel of Algeria are the CAF Cup holders.
