AS Vita Club beat Don Bosco 3-0 in the DR Congo’s Ligue 1 playoffs on Wednesday to dislodge TP Mazembe at the top of the league standings.
Jean-Marc Mundele Makusu was the show stopper at the theatre of the Congolese football, Martyrs Stadium, Kinshasa – hitting a hat-trick to seal the win.
The goals took Makasu’s tally to 23, atop the scorers chat, two better than Mazembe’s prodigy Ben Malango.
With the vital victory, the Dolphins are now top of the 12-team playoffs log for the first time on 50 points same as Mazembe, who have played a game more, but have inferior goal difference.
To dethrone Mazembe and bag their 14th title, the coach Florent Ibenge’s side only needs to win the remaining two matches.
Mazembe appear to have resigned to their fate.
“With two games to play for Vita Club and one for the TPM, the dice is already cast. AS Vita Club got their hands on the title,” the Ravens admitted.
As it stands, both Vita and Mazembe have qualified for the African Champions League football next season.
In the other match of the day, DC Motema Pembe beat Sanga Balende 2-0.
Balende remained third on the log on 43 points, two more than DCMP, who have played a match less.
The two are fighting for a slot in the CAF Confederation Cup next season.
