DR Congo topflight league “Linafoot” has been suspended indefinitely in “solidarity” with FECOFA (DR Congo FA) president Constant Omari and his two vice presidents who were arrested over alleged embezzlement.

The management took the decision Wednesday following the Tuesday arrests which they termed as humiliating and unjust.

“In solidarity with the president of the Congolese Federation of Football Association (FECOFA) and his two vice presidents, who have been humiliated and unjustly deprived of their liberty, the Linafoot suspends all its activities until further notice.”

Four matches that were scheduled for today (Wednesday) will nonetheless proceed as planned.

Omari alongside vice-presidents Roger Bondembe and Theobald Binamungu was arrested at placed in custody over alleged misuse of $1,000,000 government money that was meant to be used to prepare different national teams for four friendly engagements.

Omori is the Confederation of African Football (CAF) second vice president and FIFA, the world’s football body, Council Member.
