Blue Eagles moved to the top of the TNM Malawian super league after registering a 3-1 win over Karonga United in a league match played at the Nankhaka stadium yesterday afternoon.
The newcomers were buoyed by last weekend shock win over giants Big Bullets, that however found the going tough against the Area 30 cops as they are known.
Blue eagles Vitumbiko Mkandawire scored for the hosts early in the half before Steve Msiska scored an own goal for a 2-0 half time lead.
The visitors came back stronger in the second half and pulled one back courtesy of Twisi Kalolokesya.
Gilbert Chirwa stretched Eagles lead with a cool finish inside the penalty box for a 3-1 scoreline.
Eagles now top the league on 25 points from 11 matches while Karonga United are tenth with only 6 points from 10 matches.
At Zomba Community Centre grounds, Civo service united got a rude shock after they were humbled 4-0 by Red Lions.

The rookies registered no shot at goal in the entire 45 minutes of the half but defended diligently as the frustrated the heavy weights. Chiukepo Msowoya and Muhamad Sulumba were introduced for Mlozi and Nikiza Aimable and the decision paid off as Msowoya gave the host a lead following a defensive relapse by the visitors’ defence, 1-nil.
In the second half a long ball from Chikulekule released Phiri who didn’t hesitate firing home as he levelled matters. The whole stadium was in a sombre mood as Bullets players were now racing against time but after 90 minutes of play, it ended 1-1.Bullets who reached the Presidents cup final lost their previous league match to another newcomer Karonga United.
In other matches played on Sunday Azam Tigers and Mafco FC played to a 1-all draw at Kalulu Stadium while Kamuzu Barracks run riot at Civo Stadium by thrashing aside Karonga United 4-1.
