After representing their countries in the AFCON 2017 qualifiers final day last week, a good number of East Africans plying their trade away from home were back in action for their clubs, while a few more were missing in action.

Michael Olunga

The “engineer” did not score for the “Harambee Stars” away to Zambia against the “Chipolopolo” on Sunday 4 but exactly a week later, he provided an assist and scored a goal for his Swedish side Djurgardens IF in a 2-1 league win against Falkenbergs FF at Falkenbergs IP Stadium.

Olunga assisted Mathias Renegie equalizer four minutes past the half hour mark after Stefan Rodevag had given the hosts a second minute lead.

The former Gor Mahia and Tusker FC stalwart would inscribe his name on the scoreboard in the 75th minute to complete the sweet comeback. Olunga has now hit five in six fixtures.

Laudit Mavugo

Just who will stop this Burundian assassin? The former Vital’O goal poacher is continuing to put a smile on the faces of “Msimbazi Red” fans as he promised when he signed early this season; on Sunday he netted the second goal as Simba SC beat Mtibwa Sugar 2-0 at the National stadium, Dar in the Tanzania Vodacom Premier League.

The Coach Joseph Omog’s side is joint top of the log with 10 points same as Azam FC who have a better goal difference.

Jesse Were

The Kenyan international rediscovered his scoring touch for Zesco United on Sunday, hitting his 13th goal of the season. Jesse equalized minutes into the second half after Mfulira Blackpool had taken 16th minute lead at John Yumba Kachofa stadium.

John Chingandu’s 75th minute strike guaranteed the maximum points away from home for the Coach George Lwandamina’s side that are keeping the title hopes alive and kicking.

Moses Oloya

Fresh from featuring for Uganda Cranes in the 1-0 win against Comoros that saw them return to the African Cup of Nations in 38 years, Moses Oloya did not rest as he was part of Kuban Krasnodar’s team that played to a barren draw against Falcon Sunday in the Russian top league.

Dennis Onyango

Like Oloya, Cranes keeper one Dennis Onyango was back between the posts for Mamelodi Sundowns when they played Chippa United to a barren draw in the MTN8 cup at the Nelson Mandela Bay stadium, South Africa on Sunday.

Jacques Tuyisenge

The Rwandan international assisted two goals as Gor Mahia bounced back to winning ways in four attempts, with a 3-1 convincing beating of Chemelil Sugar in the Kenyan premier league at Nyayo stadium on Saturday.

Francis Kahata opened the scoring for the Ze Maria’s men with a lovely free kick in the 16th minute before Jared Obwoge cancelled out the lead minutes to the first interval. On resumption, Tuyisenge set up youngster Amos Nondi for the second goal in the 57th minute, before finding George Odhiambo with a pin point cross from the left for the third goal in the 77th minute.

Farouk Miya and Mbwana Samatta

The hero of Uganda’s qualification to the AFCON 2017 Farouk Miya missed an opportunity to face off with Taifa Stars skipper Mbwana Samatta as Standard Liege hosted KRC Genk hosted at Stade Maurice Dufrasne on Sunday.

Miya’s Liege was however on the winning side beating Genk 2-0 with goals from Ishak Belfodil and Orlando Sa; Samatta played the full length of the match.

Victor Wanyama

The “Lion of Muthurwa” as the Kenyan international is nicknamed has continued to cement his position in the Tottenham Hotspur’s squad and was a prominent figure in the midfield as the North Londoners annihilated Stoke City 4-0 at the Britannia Stadium on Sunday.

The goals poured courtesy of Heung Min Son brace, Bamidele Alli and Harry Kane strikes. Tottenham are perched fourth on the log with 8 points, four off leaders Man City.

Emmanuel Okwi

The Cranes striker missed Sonderjyske Fodbold 2-2 draw against Silkeborg IF in the Belgium league on Sunday.
