Ethiopia Football Federation (EFF) have appointed Dedebit coach Yohannes Sahle as the new national team coach.
EFF President Junedin Basha told supersport.com that the executive committee arrived at the decision after listening to stakeholders and football fans.
“EFF has chosen Dedebit FC coach Yohannes Sahle as head coach of the Ethiopian national team. This has been done with transparency and openness to the media and all the people. We sometimes have to take into account what people feel,” Junedin said.
“We will meet the coach from Monday to discuss all modalities and we are optimistic he is the right man to guide the national team to greater heights,” he added.
Sahle who is yet to accept the appointment is expected to take over from Portuguese Mariano Barreto whose contract was terminated by mutual consent.
Barreto, who was appointed in 2014 failed to lead Walia Ibex to the 2015 Afcon only managing one win against Mali. This is after taking over from Sewnet Bishaw who helped Walia qualify for Afcon 2013 after a 31-year wait.
Ethiopia also qualified for the 2014 Chan, which proved the Waterloo for Bishaw as his team was knocked out in the group stages forcing EFF to sack him.
