The current season of the Egyptian Premier League will end by the end of October or the start of November, and there will be an interval of 10 days or two weeks ahead of the new season, chief executive of the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) Walid El-Ataar revealed early on Tuesday.
The prestigious domestic tournament usually ends in July, but this season it resumed in August after almost four months of suspension due to the coronavirus pandemic. Teams are yet to play 13 matches before ending the competition.
“The interval between the current season and the new one [2020/2021] will be from 10 to 15 days,” the EFA official told ON Time Sports TV channel.
“We are trying to play Egypt Cup matches in the empty days during this season. We are working hard to end the season perfectly,” he said.
Title holders Ahly are firm favourites to win a fifth straight title since they top the table with 56 points after 21 games, 16 ahead of the nearest challengers, archrivals Zamalek.
