The Egyptian FA has written to FIFA to demand an explanation for missing votes for Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah for the Best FIFA Men’s Player award.
Salah finished fourth in the running for the award, behind Cristiano Ronaldo, Virgil van Dijk and winner Lionel Messi.
It appeared as though Egypt coach Shawky Gharib and captain Ahmed Elmohamady had not voted for Salah and the Liverpool man even removed all mention of Egypt from his social media profiles.
But Egypt insist that is not the case, saying Gharib and Elmohamady both voted for Salah and have written to FIFA to ask why their votes were not counted.
Salah tweeted on Tuesday with a picture of himself in an Egypt shirt with the caption “Whatever they do to try to change my love for Egypt, they will not succeed.”
Salah was involved in a row with the Egypt FA last year over his image rights after he was used to promote sponsor WE.
