Egypt and Ghana shared spoils in a high octane Group B match of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations played at the Felix Houphouet-Boigny Stadium in Abidjan on Thursday.
A Mohamed Kudus brace put Ghana in the driving seat but Egypt responded twice with goals from Omar Marmoush and Mostafa Mohamed.
The Ghanaians were happy to have Kudus back in the team after he missed the defeat to Cape Verde in the first game.
The West Ham man didn’t look like he was coming from an Injury and settled well in the game. He skipped passed two defenders and unleashed a powerful shot past El Shenawy to give Chris Houghton’s boys a lead just before halftime.
Moments before, Egypt suffered a major blow with captain Mohamed Salah coming off with what appears to be a hamstring injury.
Egypt pushed for the equalizer in the second half and the pressure paid off with Marmoush pouncing on a back pass by Iñaki Williams. The Eintracht Frankfurt winger rounded Richard Ofori and slotted home with 20 minutes to go.
A minute later Kudus completed his brace but then another moment of madness in the Ghana defense gifted Egypt another goal. Trezeguet stole the ball from Osman Bukari to set up Mostafa Mohamed who nutmegged Ofori to level the game again.
The two giants of African Football settled for a point in what was a scintillating game of football.
The result opened up a chance for both Mozambique and Cape Verde to take control of the group ahead of their meeting on Friday.
Ghana will now look to their third game against Mozambique on Monday to have a chance of going through while Egypt will face Cape Verde on the same day with both games being played simultaneously.
