Egyptian giants Zamalek took over Al Ahly as the Egyptian Premier League leaders after beating Smouha 1-0.
This was the Whites’ first game following their 0-0 draw in the Cairo Derby on Saturday. They entered the game with a game in hand and one point behind the Red Devils and needed a win to retain their position on top.
In the 35th minute Morocco national team striker found himself in a one on one position with the goalkeeper but was tackled before he got the chance to shoot the ball which resulted in a penalty.
Former Metz midfielder Ferjani Sassi stepped up to take it and found the back of the net to gift his team the win. This marked the Tunisian’s seventh goal for the White Knights in 21 games in the Egyptian Premier League.
Zamalek’s upcoming game will be against Morocco’s Hassania Agadir in the first leg of the CAF Confederations Cup quarterfinals on April 7.
