Egypt and Liverpool forward Mohammed Salah has been voted the 2017 BBC African Footballer of The Year.

Salah beat a star-studded list that had his teammate and Senegal striker Sadio Mane, multiple nominee Pierre Emerick Aubameyang of Gabon, Chelsea and Nigeria winger Victor Moses and Gunean Naby Keita to bag the gong.

Liverpool coach Jurgen Klopp presented the trophy to him at Melwwod training ground.

“I am very happy to win this award, and you feel like you had a great year, so I’m very happy. I would also like to win it next year!” Salah said.

Salah has enjoyed a great year both at club and at national level.

Since crossing over from Italy’s Roma this season, the diminutive forward has been a big hit in the Premier League – and is currently the league’s top scorer with 13 goals.

He was instrumental in Egypt’s qualification for the 2018 World Cup after scoring twice against Congo in their decisive match.

Overall he scored five times and assisted twice in the campaign.

Salah also finished runners-up with the Pharaohs in this year’s AFCON in Gabon.
