Host Rwanda commenced the 2016 Championship of African Nations (CHAN) campaign on a high shocking fancied Ivory Coast 1-0 before a fully packed Amahoro Stadium on Saturday 16.
APR defender Emery Bayisenge scored the only goal of the evening, striking home a lovely free kick from the edge of the box which left keeper Badra Ali Sangare fully stretched.
Even though he was denied later by Sangare from the spot in the 60th minute after captain Jacques Tuyisenge was brought down in the box, Emery who had a superb outing was later crowned the man of the match.
Rwanda now tops group “A” after the first match of the championships with three points.
