Nigerian league champions Enyimba got a reality shock in their opening match of the CAF champions League when they went down 0-1 in a waterlogged Adokie Amiesimaka stadium in Port Harcourt.

The match was delayed for few minutes following a heavy downpour in the coastal city.

Despite the waterlogged pitch, Zamalek’s Bassem Morsy headed home the only goal eight minutes into the match

Zamalek were the first to threaten through Mahmoud Kahraba who attempted to chip
the ball over Theophilus Afelokhai, but the goalkeeper make a comfortable save.

The hosts began to dominate proceedings after the scare and came close to equalizing in the 21st minute when Kelly Kester’s shot was parried away by Ahmed El Shenawy in the Zamalek goal.

Joseph Osadiaye too came close to draw level for the hosts with just a minute to the breather but his effort went wide.

On resumption Enyimba hastened their tempo but we’re again denied by keeper El Shenawy who had a brilliant evening denying Mfon Udoh twice. It was another wasted chance this time by Ifeanyi Onuigbo in the 59th minute when a free flowing sequential pass work ended up over the bar.

The Paul Aigbogun led side fought hard to find an equalizer but the visitors stayed put resisting any attempt of such kind as they headed back to Egypt rich with three points
