In a fixture rescheduled from the summer preseason schedule, Everton will now play Kenyan giants Gor Mahia in the SportPesa Trophy at Goodison Park in the first week of November.
A friendly organized by the Blues’ shirt sponsors SportPesa, the Blues played Gor last year during a tour of Tanzania in the inaugural game back in early July. With a new manager Marco Silva coming in this summer, this game didn’t end up getting played as part of the preseason friendlies, and will now be held on either Tuesday the 6th or Wednesday the 7th of November.
Everton are at home against Brighton Hove & Albion on Saturday the 3rd, and then are away at Chelsea on Sunday the 11th, so it shouldn’t cause too much disruption to the schedule. The Blues will likely field more of a youth-centric lineup for this game, just before the season starts to get really hectic with the holiday schedule in December.
The Toffees beat Gor 2-1 last season with two excellent long-distance strikes from Kieran Dowell and Wayne Rooney. The Kenyan team continue their domination of the East African scene, and are just five points away from clinching their 17th Kenyan Premier League title. Gor are now 17 points clear of the second-placed team with eights games still to play.
