Emilio Nsue scored a Hat-trick while Josete Miranda got the other as Equatorial Guinea beat Guinea-Bissau 4-2 in their second Group A match of the AFCON 2023 played at the Alassane Ouattara Stadium on Thursday.
Guinea-Bissau’s goals came from an own goal by Equatorial Guinea’s Orozco Fernandez and a late consolation goal by José Correia.
The Nazalang Nacional were in a thunderous mood as they solidified their position in the Group and increased their chances of qualifying to the next round.
Emilio Nsue opened the scoring after 21 minutes when the Djurtus defense failed to clear their lines.
Guinea-Bissau drew level in the 37th minute thanks to Orozco Fernandez who put the ball in his own net.
Guinea-Bissau thought they had won a penalty but VAR intervened and it was cancelled in favor of Equatorial Guinea.
The two sides went into the break tied at 1-1 but immediately upon restart, Josete Miranda restored Equatorial Guinea’s lead again taking advantage of miscommunication in the defense line.
From there on it was one way traffic as Emilio Nsue scored twice in the 51st minute and 61st minutes the to compete his Hat-trick.
Correia scored a late goal in stoppage time but it was not enough as Guinea-Bissau lost their second match.
Equatorial Guinea’s win takes them to four points and boosts their chances of making it into the round of 16.
