Eric Johanna will not be bogged down by the set back of missing a crucial spot kick for country but instead he will pick the positives from it.
The young Kenyan international who plies his trade in the Kenyan Premier League with Mathare United, yesterday (Tuesday 1) watched his penalty punched out by Rwandan keeper Eric Ndayishimiye as Harambee Stars crushed out of the 2015 Cecafa Senior Challenge at the quarter finals stage.
“This is not my worst day in life, I’m not dissapointed but happy because I have learnt alot and I have gained so much experience from this,” Johanna posted on his official Facebook account after the match.
Amavubi and Stars settled for a barren draw at full time at the Addis Ababa Stadium – Ethiopia sending the match straight to penalties.
Noah Abich and David Owino successfully converted Kenya’s first two kicks for a 2-3 scoreline, and when it was Eric Johanna’s turn to draw Kenya level, he took his penalty in a rather casual manner gifting the keeper with an easy save.
Despite Jesse Were converting the next penalty for the Bobby Williamson’s side, it was too late as Rwanda went ahead to score all their remaining kicks.
Eric has thanked the technical bench for trusting him with the crucial penalty and also the Kenyan fans for their encouragements saying the future can only get better for him.
“Thank you for trusting me, thank you for the messages of goodwill, we will go back and work hard and come back stronger. The future is so bright, this just the beginning. Heads up!.” He concluded.
