By Bonface Osano,
Adama FC who finished third in the 2014/205 Ethiopian Premier League season has stepped in to replace champions St George FC in this year’s CECAFA Kagame cup.
St George and Dedebit protest
The champions St George and runners up Dedebit declined the invite to represent Ethiopia in this year’s tournament to be hosted by Tanzania from July 11th 2015. The two giants are protesting a new law introduced by Ethiopian FA limiting the number of foreigners to be signed by local clubs to three, they feel targeted as they have more than three foreign players within their ranks, with some who are top players having long contracts.
In protest, the two clubs have declined to take part in the annual tournament blaming the federation for not listening to their concerns.
New Champion
Holders El Merreikh of Sudan will also not show up to defend their crown which they won last year in Rwanda, meaning 2015 edition of CECAFA Kagame cup will have a new champion. The Sudanese giants have congested fixtures both on local front and in CAF Champions league, hence they requested to be excluded in the year’s tournament.
