Rwanda’s Amavubi proved too good for Walia Ibex of Ethiopia beating them 3-1 in a friendly match played on Friday, August 28 at the Amahoro Stadium in Kigali.
The two teams were using the build up match to tie up loose ends before their respective Africa Cup of Nations qualifier matches early September, where Rwanda will host Ghana while Ethiopia will face Seychelles away.
The hosts who started the match brightly went ahead in the 18th minute via Ernest Sugira’s header which was assisted by the skipper Haruna Niyonzima. This prompted Walia Coach Yohannes Saleh to make a tactical substitution in the 29th minute pulling out Tuji Zekarias for Degen Tekalign.
Baye Gezagn drew matters level in the 41st minute as the match proceeded to half time even-steven.
Rwanda restored their lead in the 65th minute with a fantastic header from Jacques Tuyisenge before Azam FC defender Jean Baptiste Mugiraneza put the match beyond Walia with another fine header in the 73rd minute for the third third goal.
Rwanda Starting XI:Olivier, Michel, Faustin,Ismael, Celestin, Mugiraneza, Yannick, Celestin,Patrick, Jacques, Sugira.
Ethiopia Starting XI:: Mamo, Ashamo, Kasim, Degen, Tamene, Tesfaye, Kelbore, Panom, Girma, Gebire, Okwury.
