Ethiopia Football Federation has reportedly sacked head coach Yoahannes Sahle and his entire technical bench in a move that took everyone by surprise barely a month after a famous 3-3 draw against Algeria in Addis Ababa.
EFF under President Junedin Basha also axed the entire technical bench and its expected to restructure the technical department in a forthnight a close source at the federation intimated to Soka25east.com
“Yes its true Sahle has been relieved off his duties with immediate effect to pave way for another technical bench. The federation executive committee made the resolutions to give the national teams a fresh impetus after it became apparent Sahle and his technical bench were not up to the task in leading the teams to greater heights”the source who sort anonymity told Soka25east.com
Sahle has been sacked exactly one year since he took over from Portuguese Mariano Barreto, who paid the price for failing to qualify the team for the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations.
Sahle who is an Ethiopia-born US citizen who had a successful playing career in the mid 1980s with the top Ethiopian teams before leaving for America. He played for Ethiopia from the youth team to the national team.
The 49-year-old’s first task was to prepare the team for the 2017 Nations Cup qualifiers but after several matches it became apparent they were not going to make it but the bright side about his one year stint is that he took Ethiopia Walia Ibex to the 2006 CHAN played in Rwanda where they were eliminated in the first round.
Sahle returned to Ethiopia in 2010 to take the technical director role at Ethiopian Football Federation. Later he managed the U-17 national team and his last role was as coach of Dedebit, one of the top teams in the Ethiopian Premier League.
