Reports emerging from Ethiopia indicates that the country has been instructed to prepare to host the 2018 edition of Championship of African Nations (CHAN) in place Kenya who were handed the rights by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) in February 2014.
This move is attributed to Kenya’s lack of “seriousness” towards making necessary preparations for hosting the continental event, with just about two years to go.
The CAF Executive Committee designated Kenya to host the tournament after receipt of necessary government guarantees and complete dossier including the required infrastructure and security, but thus far nothing seems to be moving according to the sources.
Ethiopia has been undertaking massive football infrastructure development projects which include construction of various stadiums across the soccer loving nation, they include; Awassa, Bahir Dar, and National Stadium in Addis whose construction is about to commence.
All these put them in a prime position as a perfect replacement for Kenya as the third hosts of CHAN.
Rwanda is the host of this year’s edition which kicks off today in Kigali.
