Ethiopian international Shimeles Bekele has signed two-year contract extension with Egyptian premier side Petrojet.

Shimeles joined Petrojet in 2014 after a low key season in Sudan with El-Merrikh, and has since rediscovered his mojo.

The 26-year old’s future was subject of wide spread media speculations with some quarters linking him with a move to Germany’s Borussia Dortmund, a move that never was, with the club said have lost interest in him.

Described as “Fantastically skillful player, with lots of tricks and flicks”, Hawassa City born Shimeles started his club career with Hawassa City FC U15 side, rising rapidly to the senior side.

He burst into the limelight in the 2010 edition of CECAFA Senior Challenge in Tanzania, scoring twice for “Walia Ibex” against Kenya in a 2-1 win.

In 2011 he signed for giants St. George FC where he further blossomed before going North with Ittihad Tripoli of Libya on a three-year deal in 2013 and to El Merreikh in 2014.

Shimeles will join the national team “Walia Ibex” on Friday for camp ahead of AFCON 2017 qualifier against Seycheles in September in Hawassa City.
