Chemelil Sugar FC midfielder Hillary Echesa was on Tuesday awarded Kenyan Premier League’s best player of July accolade during a short ceremony at Chemelil Complex,Chemelil.
30-year old Echesa, a former Harambee Stars international has been at the heart of the Millers’ resurgence in the second stanza of the League, churning out virtuoso performances to earn his team crucial points. He scored three goals in the month; winners against AFC Leopards and Sofapaka and a last gasp equalizer against league leaders Tusker.
The former Tusker, Ulinzi, Sofapaka Yanga (Tanzania) and Rayon Sports (Rwanda) player, scored the highest points in the second round of voting by the Sports Journalists Association of Kenya (SJAK) panelists warding off challengers; Ezekiel Odera of City Stars, John Makwata of Ulinzi Stars and Leopards’ keeper Ian Otieno.
Echesa is not exiting the scene just yet, saying he will only do so, when he can’t go on anymore.
“I love the game and I will continue playing till I can’t match the young lads physically.” A grateful Echesa said.
For his efforts, he took home a trophy, a cash reward of Kshs 100,000 and 43″ LG TV. He also won his teammates Kshs 50,000.
