Extreme Sports Limited has sought six-month jail terms for Football Kenya Federation boss Nick Mwendwa and Chief Executive Officer Robert Muthomi for contempt of court.

Through K.N. Mburu and Associates Advocates, the body which runs Super 8 Leagues and Tournaments, has moved to High Court citing breach of orders issued by Honorable Lady Justice B. Thuranira (High Court Judge), on August 29, 2016, restraining the federation from interfering in its activities.

The application is coming up for hearing on Wednesday, October 26, 2016.

Despite the court’s directive, FKF’s Annual General Meeting on Saturday, October 15, passed a resolution to suspend Super 8 Leagues and Tournaments, and individuals associated with them, for operating “outside” the federation.

“By tabling an agenda item for the suspensions at the AGM, and by proceeding to vote on and effect the suspensions, Nick Mwendwa, Robert Muthomi and indeed FKF are in contempt of court,” a letter from the law firm seen by Soka25east.com explained the perceived contempt of court.

“Consequently, an application has been made to the said High Court seeking that Nick Mwendwa and Robert Muthomi be jailed for six months for contempt of Court,” the letter further states.

Extreme Sports Limited Chief Operating Officer Athanas Obango termed the ban “petty”, “frivolous” and a “mockery” of the sport, because FKF holds “no copyright or monopoly” over the game of football.

“I simply view this as intimidation by the federation,” Obango said, while adding that the constitution of Kenya guarantees basic rights to everyone under the bill of rights.

He said he had already instructed his lawyers to institute legal proceedings, in regard to the threats and attempted intimidation.
