Chipolopolo are third in their AFCON 2017 qualifiers group with 6 points from four matches. The odds of qualification are seemingly going against the Copper Bullets bit by bit but the Football Association of Zambia President is confident of the teams qualification. This is according to a post on the Football Association of Zambia official Facebook page
Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) president Andrew Kamanga believes that the Zambia national football team remains on course for qualification to the Gabon 2017 Africa Cup of Nations despite being third in Group E of the qualifying tournament.
Zambia played out two 1 – 1 draws against Congo- Brazzaville in a space of four days and moved into third position, a point behind leaders Guinea Bissau and separated on goal difference from Congo in second.
“The key game to win is the one against Guinea Bissau, which is our next match. If we beat Guinea Bissau then we will have a very good chance of qualifying because at the moment they are one point ahead of us. So far, I think the team has done very well because we have not lost in the two matches we have played against Congo,” said Kamanga.
Kamanga then urged the technical bench to work hard In ensuring that the team delivered desired results by preparing adequately for Guiniea Bissau and Kenya.
“We now have to go back to the drawing board and start preparing for Guinea Bissau. The coach will give us a programme to adequately prepare for the Guinea Bissau game. For now, that will be our focus.”
Zambia plays Giunea Bissau on 4th June and hosts Kenya on 3rd September. The FAZ Chief also thanked government for the support rendered to the national team in the two matches played against Congo.
“Government supported us in Ndola by buying tickets for
fans and even our outing to Congo was made possible by
government. Their support to the national team has been
unwavering and as we continue to thank them, we have
to repay them we with good results. The Sports Minister
accompanied us to Congo and he talked to the boys to
motivate them. That in itself was a boost to the morale of
the team,” he said.
