It is now confirmed that Ernest Mtawali’s 11 months stay at the helm of the Malawi National team as head coach is over. This was revealed by a sub technical committe by the football governing body FAM.
In the report, the committe states that Mtawali and his deputy Nsazuwirimo Ramadhan were working in isolation and that the coach almost made all the decisions himself without consulting his assistant.
James Mwenda, who is the FAM vice president said they reached the decision after finding out that the coach(Mtawali) has been deliberately ignoring his deputy since he took over from Young Chimodzi.
Ramadhan was never given a chance to have any say on selection of players for the National team, not even to give an input on the first eleven.
The committe recommended to FAM not to renew Mtawali’s contract which expires in July 31st together with his assistant, they however gave the assistant a lifeline by considering his appointment as the caretaker coach as they seek a permanent replacement.
Mtawali took over from Young Chimodzi on 1st of August last year after the flames lost 1-2 to Zimbabwe at home. He failed to rekindle the flames hopes of making it to Gabon 2017 and also failed to reach the second round of the World cup qualifiers.
He also had a disastrous outing in the Cosafa cup crushing out in the group stages.
But minister of Sports and Culture Grace Chiumia said the government
did not have plans to hire an expatriate coach to replace Mtawali
because the government had no money.
She said Mtawali had one month to go before the expiry of his
contract after which a decision would be made.
