Namibia failed to use their home ground advantage when they lost 3-1 to Burundi in their Group K 2017 Africa Cup of Nations Qualifier on Tuesday at Sam Nujoma Stadium.
Although the Brave Warriors netted first through South African Premiership based player Deon Hotto, of Golden Arrows, they failed to maintain their lead.
The Namibians allowed the visiting Burundians to bounce back and equalise on the stroke of half time through Pierre Kuizera.
Then the visitors made it 2-1 in the 78th minute before sealing the victory 10 minutes later, thus ensuring they revived their hopes of reaching Gabon next year.
The win comes on the back of Burundi’s 3-1 loss at home in Bujumbura to Ricardo Mannetti’s side, so they will be happy to have avenged that defeat.
Following the win, Burundi are now placed second with six points. They are behind Senegal who beat Niger 2-1 earlier in the day and qualified for the finals.
The Brave Warriors are now third with three points after three losses and one win while Niger remain rooted at the bottom with three points from one win and three losses.
