A Fasil Kenema fans’ group has voiced its concern over the club’s controversial decision to enter into a sponsorship agreement with the beer company Dashen.
Fasil Kenema management confirmed this season that they sturk a deal sparking protests from followers outside the borders making critism of how the deal was reached with the goverment owned company.
According to a statement by Fasil Kenema Supporters Trust officials who did not want to be named due to fear of victimization said that with the new move the club is going to loose support.
“We understand that the club needs to attract commercial sponsors to support the development of the club but we oppose the management decison for their decision to ‘sell’ the club to Dashen without our contest,” reads parts of the statement.
“Even among fans who support the deal, this is dissapointment is futher exacerbated as the clu has chosen to associate itself with a company that is owned by a certain section of political class,” adds the statement
Fasil Kenema is one of most valuable teams that have generated legions of fans around the world, and those supporter armies are more than happy to boast their loyalties with team uniforms. That in turn has made a team’s jersey one of its biggest sponsorship assets, as players and fans alike have become walking billboards that are up for sale to the highest bidder.
