The unveiling of Tusker fc new signings on Wednesday morning at the Ruaraka training ground ahead of the February 13 sports Pesa premier league kick off, also uncovered a unique relationship between a father and a son.
The name sharing between Ugandan Tactician Paul Nkata who is the new man at the helm of Tusker fc and left full back Fred Nkata is not a coincidence as the two are father and son.
This is not the first time the two men are working together, but it is the first time they are working for the same employer here in Kenya.
“I feel good because Tusker is a big team. Everyone dreams about Tusker. It is a good opportunity for me” Revealed the full back soon after he was unveiled to the press.
In 2011 and 2012 Fred was in the Uganda national U20 team then under the stewardship of his father.
Before then, they had worked together in the Uganda national U17 team.
“As for now, I am with my Son. I think he is comfortable because I have been training him since his childhood. I have been his mentor, father and coach. I believe he is going to enjoy working with me at Tusker as much as I will with him” Paul Nkata said.
“Am very comfortable because I have grown up with him- it’s not new. I have worked under him and I feel more comfortable being with him as compared to when am around a different coach” Added Fred
Last year Fred was called up to the Ugandan National football team but never got a chance to play.
He is hoping that his latest move to the brewers den will draw the attention of coach Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic for a chance to wear the Ugandan Jersey.
“This move will help me a lot because I have to prove that I can play for my national team.
Everyone wants to play for their national team. There is no doubt that he is going to perform, so that the Uganda national team can recognize him” Added the father cum Coach.
Even though it is said that blood is thicker than water, the player has reiterated that the relationship between him and his father will remain that of a coach and a player and that he will do all he can to impress the technical bench.
“No! It is not going to be easy simply because the head coach is my dad. I have to show him that I am worthy to play for the team. He is here for work and so am I”
Previously the player turned up for S.C Villa and Kirra while in Uganda. Last year he was at Nairobi City stars.
