George Lwandamina will continue serving as both the head coach of the Chipolopolo and that of Super league defending champions Zesco if the words by the Country’s FA are anything to go by.
The Country’s FA President former African Player of the year Kalusha Bwalya speaking to soka25east in Kigali said that the FA has faith in the coach and that he has done more than what we expected.
He said their main aim was to get out of the group stages and that’s what he exactly accomplished saying the penalties were just a lottery and any team could win.
‘We might have been knocked out in the quarter finals but we should know that with penalties it could have gone either way, penalties are a lottery. Lwandamina has done extremely well since taking over last year. Our main objective coming here to come out from the group stages and that he did without the team conceding any goal in open play.”
“The team is now playing quality football and there is cohesion and discipline and that is what the Zambian people want to see in their team. Away from Chan he has had a good run in the Afcon 2017 qualifiers going away and beating Kenya and it’s been an upward trajectory,” Kalusha added.
“The FA is satisfied with what Lwandamina is doing with the team and we believe he is the man to drive us to greater heights. He has shown the hunger for success and that is why we will continue supporting him.”
Zambia exited the tournament on a high having not conceded any goal in open play with their captain Christopher Katongo winning the man of their match in their 1-0 win over Uganda in the group stages in Rubavu. They lost to Guine in the quarter finals 5-4 on post match penalties after a goalless draw in both regualation and extra times.
