WEEK SEVEN AT A GLANCE IN THE FAZ MTN SUPER LEAGUE
Lumwana Lose for the first time……Power Dynamos still unbeaten
***********************
WINNERS AND LOSERS
NKWAZI 0-1 RED ARROWS
The week seven MTN Super league ended with Red Arrows picking their second win of the season courtesy of Patrick Ngoma who scored his second of the season and goal number 9 for Red Arrows this season. Red Arrows finish 6th in week seven and pushes Nkwazi to 13th on the log.
Take note Red Arrows’ two wins now have come away from home while they have drawn four with two of those draws at home. Their only loss of the season was away to Lusaka Dynamos.
CITY OF LUSAKA 0-1 ZESCO UNITED
City of Lusaka have not won at home this season so far and they recieved their fourth loss which was the second at home. This was against ZESCO on the opening day of week seven on a Friday afternoon. That loss takes City of Lusaka 15th on the log with 7 points which already is a relegation point as at close of week seven.
Zesco may have struggled to get the goal but it wdon’t matter now as it counts for three points. That goal scored by Jesse Were is his third of the season and and pushed Zesco to 14 points, joint leaders of the league but only behind to Zesco on goal difference . They also have the same points with Lumwana but have better goal difference.
POWER DYNAMOS 2-0 GREEN EAGLES
Power Dynamos is the only club unbeaten so far this season, and now have a top goal scorer in Fwayo Tembo with five goals thanks for his brace in this encounter. This was the second win Power Dynamos was getting this season adding to the first they got at home to Napsa Stars on day two. Power Dynamos are fifth at close of week seven and they could exchange positions with Lusaka Dynamos should the appeal go their way.
Green Eagles finish week seven on 9th and that was their third loss , second on the road with the other coming at home in week six against Lusaka Dynamos. Its two losses on a bounce now.
LUSAKA DYNAMOS 1-0 MUFULIRA WANDERERS
Again Lusaka Dynamos showed their real chance of doing something special this season after fielding a weakened side against Mufulira Wanderers. That side was strong against Mufulira Wanderers and won by a lone goal courtesy of Marvin Jere. Enough to break into the top four and hoping the appeal go their way to keep that position.
For Mufulira Wanderers they will be hopeful of good things to come soon and will also be proud of that display they showed against Lusaka Dynamos. Its work in progress. They are still bottom and that was the sixth loss of the season.
LUMWANA RADIANTS 0-2 NCHANGA RANGERS
Lumwana are finally beaten in the super league and the fairy tale journey shattered at home by a spirited Nchanga Rangers on the day. Radiants though keep the joint leadership intact but it’s now under threat by the chasing pack and the consistent that is being displayed by Zesco and ZANACO.
Nchanga Rangers get off the relegation zone to 14th at the close of week seven. Thanks to Martin Ndhlovu and Henry Bwalya Kasonde with the goals. That was Bwalya Kasonde’s second goal of the season adding to his first against Nkana at home. Its also the first away win of the season Nchanga Rangers.
BUILDCON 0-1 FOREST RANGERS
Forest look like they know what to do against perceived big teams and they did it in the Ndola derby against a glamorous Buildcon courtesy of Webster Muzaza goal. Webster Is a former Lusaka Dynamos player and that was his first goal of the season and moves the team to sixth. It was also the third win for Forest and second away from home.
Not too good of a result for Buildcon who get their second loss of the season and the first at home. They still end week seven as the best defensive team so far with only three conceded. That defensive record wiIl look less important at the end of week seven as Team Kopala end in relegation zone.
DRAWS
ZANACO 0-0 NKANA
I would say ZANACO were tested for the first time this season in the league at the hands of Nkana. Nkana, the better team of the first half and some parts of the second half will be disappointed that they failed to beat Zanaco after a very good display and missing a penalty in the process.
Its the third draw for Nkana and the first away adding to the two draws at home already this season. They end the week on 12th position while ZANACO are leaders at the close of the week.
NAPSA STARS 0-0 GREEN BUFFALOES
A goalless draw only favoured Napsa as that alone was enough to go 10th on the log and leave Green Buffaloes 11th. GBFC had a man sent off for a second yellow in this encounter. Third draw for GBFC and the first for Napsa.
KABWE WARRIORS 1-1 KONKOLA BLADES
Kabwe Warriors now have five draws and two losses this season. They are yet to register a win alongside Mufulira Wanderers. They came back from this one after a Frank Chinama goal for Konkola Blades. Silon Jere equalised late on in the second half to secure a point at home and avoid a second loss at home.
Kabwe Warriors are in the relegation zone while Konkola Blades are seventh with their second draw of the season and both draws have come away from home.
Both scorers were getting their second goals of the season.
REAL NAKONDE 0-0 NAKAMBALA LEOPARDS
Nakambala Leopards with their second draw away from home will feel motivated to travel that distance and come back with a draw. But not enough to get them off the relegation zone at the close of week seven.
For Real Nakonde, they are just goal difference away from relegation zone at this stage and this was an opportunity to pull clear. Its these results that Real Nakonde will look back at the end of the season and I hope it Wont be regrets.
WEEK SEVEN STATS
Goals
We now have 142 goals scored so far this season with 61 scored in the first half and 81 scored in the second half.
This was the lowest week with goals scored only 10 were recorded
Biggest Winners
NCHANGA RANGERS
I will go for Nchanga Rangers , Scoring two and missing a penalty away to Lumwana is no mean achievement this season. They are my choice for the biggest winners and deserve an applaud
Worst Losers
LUMWANA RADIANTS
Lumwana Radiants with all good songs we have sung for them and letting Nchangs Rangers over run them at their back yard is disappointing and perhaps the dreaming will stop and live reality after this encounter.
Lumwana was very over confident and won that game before it was played. Hope they will learn from this and emulate Zanaco and Zesco who take every game seriously .
Fighting Relegation
MUFULIRA WANDERERS
Still Mufulira Wanderers with the sixth loss in seven games ! They need to change this sequence soon or else we count them going this early on in the season. Its serious work needed in Mufulira to change this poor run of results.
Best player
DIEGO APANENE
I did not watch games this weekend apart from the Zanaco Vs Nkana game and I think my best player in week seven is DIEGO APANENE. He is doing very good work at the back for Nkana and I think for me he is the best left back in the league currently.
Best Goal
Not too sure! Did not have a wide choice to look at the goals this weekend!!
