To continue as Chipolopolo coach
The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) has thrown weight on Wedson Nyirenda to continue as head Coach of the Chipolopolo. This is after uproas on Social media suggesting the National team trainer was on the verge of losing his job.
FAZ spokesperson, Desmond Katongo is quoted to have said the local football governing body has no intention of making changes in the technical team setting of the Senior National team, hence Wedson is charged to oversee the qualification games of Zambia for the 2019 AFCON.
“Wedson wada wada Nyirenda will continue as Chipolopolo coach.This means that Wada Wada will be incharge of the team in all the home and away fixtures during the Afcon Cameroon 2019 qualifiers,” read the statement.
There has been an uproar from quarters of soccer fans, calling for Wedson Nyirenda to step down after the poor showing and elimaniation of Zambia at the 2018 CHAN quarterfinals in Morocco.
Zambia has already lost its opening home game against Mozambique in the 2019 AFCON qualifier and are rooted bottom on zero points in a group they share with Guinea Bissau, Namibia and Mozambique. The winner of the group will qualify to the Afcon Finals to be hosted by Cameroon.
