FC Nouadhibou won the 2017/2018 Mauritania Division One League title on Thursday without kicking a ball.
The Nouakchott based outfit were confirmed champions after their nearest rivals ASAC Concorde suffered unexpected 1-0 loss to FC Tervah.
FC Nouadhibaou march to the title has seemed more like a formality in recent months, as its points tally grew and the gap to the other teams widened.
Wednesday’s win over AS Garde took Nouadhibou to 54 points and it was handed the title a two days later after Concorde loss which saw their lead widen by a whopping 13 points.
Conquering Africa may still be a huge objective for the club’s owners but for now domestically the side stands apart.
The debate will rumble on whether this FC Nouadhibou side, who’ve maintained the highest standards throughout the season, are better than AS Tidjukja.
