Horoya AC beat FC Platinum 1-0 in the 2018/19 CAF Champions League Group B match at the Barbourfields Stadium in Zimbabwe on Saturday.
Asa a result, Guinea’s Horoya climbed up to the third spot on the group standings, while Zimbabwean champions Platinum moved down to fourth place.
The Platinum Boys pushed for an early goal with Kelvin Mazdongwe looking lively for the home side.
However, HAC were solid and compact at the back and the hosts were forced to try their luck from range.
Madzongwe unleashed two long-range shots which missed the target as the visitors frustrated the Platinum Boys attackers.
Horoya were able to contain Platinum until Algerian match referee Mustapha Ghorbal blew the half-time whistle.
The score was 0-0 at half-time between Platinum and Horoya.
HAC were awarded a penalty a few minutes after the restart, and the visitors had a great opportunity to take the lead.
Marius Assoko then stepped up and beat Platinum goalkeeper Petros Mhari to make it 1-0 to Horoya in the 51st minute.
Attack-minded player Lameck Nhamo was then introduced by the hosts as the Platinum Boys looked to level matters.
Both teams launched attacks in the dying minutes of the match as they searched for late goals.
However, they could not score and ultimately, Horoya secured a 1-0 victory over Platinum in Bulawayo.
