Ferroviaro de Beirra were held to a 1-1 draw by Etoile du Sahel in a CAF Champions League Group A clash on Saturday at Beirra Stadium.

The partially wet pitch made it difficult for both teams to play their usual passing style. But it was Ferroviaro who managed to break the deadlocks through midfielder Chelito Omar.

Tunisians immediately tried to get an equaliser but they couldn’t penetrate Ferroviario’ defence.

The visitors side were awarded a penalty in the 82nd minutes.Slim ben Belgacem stepped up to score the penalty.

Ferroviario uped their game desperately looking for a goal but luck was not on their side. The Maputo side could have taken the lead again in the 89th minute when Amara Ugwu’s cross found Pasoal Carlos unmarked at the back post, but Kanda hit the ball over the crossbar.

Etoile du Saheal coach had to make some changes in search for a goal but it was not to be. However the introduction of the duo changed the complexion of the game a little bit as Tunisians put more pressure on Ferroviaro. The Maputo boys defended so well as the game finished 1-1.

The Tunisians have now booked a place is the quarter-fimnals as they  are two points clear at the top of Group A after Al Merreikh beat rivals Al-Hilal 2-1 in the Sudan derby on Friday night.
