FIFA has agreed to appoint a normalization committee to run the affairs of troubled Cameroonian Football Federation (FECAFOOT).
The decision follows Court of Arbitration for Sport’s annulment of the 2015 electoral process which led to the election of the current office led by Sidiki Tombi and subsequent failure by the world’s football governing body to reconcile warring factions.
The committee’s mandate includes drafting new FECAFOOT statutes and conducting fresh election.
Tombi, previously the Secretary General of the federation, succeeded jailed former boss Mohammed Iya.
Iya won re-election from jail while awaiting trial in 2013 sparking a stalemate, which led to FIFA ban.
A normalization committee was appointed by FIFA to steer them off the quagmire leading to the election of Tombi in 2015.
The current move leaves Cameroon’s preparations to stage the 2019 AFCON in limbo.
The country is already running late to put up the requisite infrastructure to stage the Africa’s premium football event with talks of the rights being taken gaining momentum.
