Football Kenya Federation (FKF) and Kenya Premier League(KPL) have reached a consensus over their stalemate after fruitful intervention by world governing soccer body(fifa).
A high powered Fifa delegation Headed by Ghana FA President Kwesi Nyatakyi together with Ashford Mamelodi and Fifa head of National Association Primo Cavaro presided over acceptance of the on-going parallel league by the two warring bodies pending the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding(MOU) for a joint league that will be headed by FKF in 2016.
However,KPL has been given the nod to organise the on-going FKF premier League composed of 18 team’s while running their own entity which incorporates 16 teams.
FKF President Sam Nyamweya thanked the Fifa delegation for coming to Kenya to resolve the impasse.
He said there will only be one both FKF and KPL league’s will continue concurrently on a transition basis noting that by the end of 2015,Kenya will have one league of 18 clubs.
“We had a fruitful discussion with the visiting Fifa delegation.I’m happy we have a way forward that will lead us to the formation of one league comprising of 18 team’s.By the end of the year, both parties shall meet, review, harmonise and come up with one unified league”Observed Nyamweya.
The league, according to Cavaro, will be known as FKF-Premier League while the Federation will control and manage football in the country.
The meeting further agreed that FKF will withdraw any pending court case as a way of bringing normalcy in the game.
