Fifa President Infantino arrives in Madagascar to begin African tour

FIFA President Infantino arrived in Antananarivo, Madagascar, to meet with the Confederation of African Football (CAF) President Ahmad and the Malagasy Football Association (FMF) to begin his visit to several African member associations.

Upon arrival in Madagascar’s capital city, Infantino, along with his delegation comprised of FIFA General Secretary and General Delegate for Africa Fatma Samoura, Deputy Secretary General Mattias Grafström, Chief Member Associations Officer Véron Mosengo-Omba, former French international and FIFA Foundation CEO Youri Djorkaeff, FIFA Legend and Special Advisor to CAF President Samuel Eto’o, were received by CAF President Ahmad and President of the FMF Raul Arizaka Rabekoto.

Madagascar is one of several African countries that Infantino and Ahmad will be visiting in Africa with the others being Mozambique, Lesotho, Angola, Congo DR, Congo and Malawi.

In Antananarivo the FIFA President will meet President of the Republic of Madagascar Andry Rajoelina, as well as hold meetings with the FMF President and members of the FMF’s Executive Committee, before heading to Mahajunga to visit the CAF offices there, where a meeting of the FIFA Member Associations Committee will take place.

As he welcomed the FIFA delegation, CAF President Ahmad said: “We are delighted to receive the FIFA President in a continent where he feels very at home, Africa”, before handing the floor to FMF President Raoul Arizaka Rabekoto who declared: Today is an historic day for Malagasy football and the FMF. The passionate football fans of Madagascar welcome you President Infantino.”

Taking the floor Infantino had this to say: “I’m happy to be back in Africa, a place where I feel so at home. We are delighted to be here and to start our African tour in your country. We intend to do great things for African football, restoring the hope of many and bring smiles to the faces of millions of children in Africa.”
