Black Africa forward Muna Katupose his counterpart Vicent Namiseb, Young Brazilian skipper Wayne Esterhusen, Flamingos’ Vincent Namiseb and Tigers attacker Sakaria Jonas have been called to Namibia squad for 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier aganist Guinea-Bissau slated for June.
The five were not part of the 25-man team that was named by coach Ricardo Mannetti a fortnight ago as they received call ups to the national team late on Monday evening.
This came after a week of training where five players were dropped, that included United Stars striking pair of Manuel Francisco and Joseph Munaperi,Da Costa Angula and Civics midfielder Donald Gaseb.
Namibia will also be preparing to face Zimbabwe for the 2018 CHAN qualifiers in July. They will also face Zambia,Mozambique and Bissau in the Group K of the AFCON 2019 qualifiers.
In an interview with local press Mannetti has revealed that the boys are showing promise and will be ready to conquer Africa.
“Fitness is not as bad as I expected. The boys have been training on their own and some clubs too have been up and about. For the first group everyone was around except for Da Costa (Angula) who could get time way from work. Otherwise the first week went well.”
The 2015 Cosafa winning coach adds the reason why he has kept most of the players from the first week and added the five new names to the training squad.
“Remember, we are assessing the players and this is by no means the final team. We have now added five new players to look at them as well together with the others and we will again for next week make a few changes as well. I remain positive in two months’ time we will be ready to compete”, states Mannetti.
