FKF President Nick Mwendwa hints at 18 team Kenyan Premier League

Newly elected Football Kenya Federation(FKF) President Nick Mwendwa has said  that it was not late  to implement  an 18 team’s  Premier
League .

He disclosed that his ‘Team Change” had asked League title sponsor’s Sportpesa and Supersport to consider an 18 team’s format because Kenya is growing  and very soon they will put proper structures in place  to accommodate an expanded League.

He said plans are underway to hire a
Youth Director who will coordinate  youth team’s preparations including the Under 17,20 and Ladies team’s.

‘We are going to hire football professionals, who will work with the
people  who worked with us in our campaign.I don’t think we shall have
any problem having an 18 team’s league.We have asked  our title
sponsor’s Sportpesa and Supersport to consider an 18 teams League.We
are not late to implement  that since we have the right people to do
it “ Observed Mwendwa.

He averred that the Federation requires a budget of a whooping Kshs.350m to cater for continental matches including youth qualifiers.He said the money will cover all youth matches including Under
17,20,Harambee Stars ,their women Starlets  counterparts and  other
continental assignments for Kenya teams.

Mwendwa  further observed  that within two months, the Federation will be able to identify the right  kit provider’s  for Harambee Stars following a mix-up between Kelme,Jomo, and Adidas.

‘We are going to have our first National Executive committee(NEC)meeting in a few day’s time where we shall discuss all
the  pending thorny issues.We have inherited a federation that has no
singe penny in its  account.We need to discuss  the budget for our
calendar of events that stands at Kshs.350 million.The issue of  our
official kit provider, Harambee Stars forthcoming  clash against
Guinea Bissau and  many others will be  discussed in that meeting”  he
noted.

Mwendwa also disclosed that for easier
administration,the Federation will relocate  from Nyayo Stadium to
Kasarani’s Fifa Goal Project within six months.

‘All football activities, he added,including Kenya Premier League secretariat ,
coaching ,and the referee’s body will be housed under one roof at Kasarani Goal Project within six months for easier communication and avoid wrangles as witnessed there before “
