Newly elected Football Kenya Federation(FKF) President Nick Mwendwa has said that it was not late to implement an 18 team’s Premier
League .
He disclosed that his ‘Team Change” had asked League title sponsor’s Sportpesa and Supersport to consider an 18 team’s format because Kenya is growing and very soon they will put proper structures in place to accommodate an expanded League.
He said plans are underway to hire a
Youth Director who will coordinate youth team’s preparations including the Under 17,20 and Ladies team’s.
‘We are going to hire football professionals, who will work with the
people who worked with us in our campaign.I don’t think we shall have
any problem having an 18 team’s league. We have asked our title
sponsor’s Sportpesa and Supersport to consider an 18 teams League. We
are not late to implement that since we have the right people to do
it “ Observed Mwendwa.
He averred that the Federation requires a budget of a whooping Kshs.350m to cater for continental matches including youth qualifiers. He said the money will cover all youth matches including Under
17,20,Harambee Stars ,their women Starlets counterparts and other
continental assignments for Kenya teams.
Mwendwa further observed that within two months, the Federation will be able to identify the right kit provider’s for Harambee Stars following a mix-up between Kelme,Jomo, and Adidas.
‘We are going to have our first National Executive committee(NEC)meeting in a few day’s time where we shall discuss all
the pending thorny issues. We have inherited a federation that has no
singe penny in its account. We need to discuss the budget for our
calendar of events that stands at Kshs.350 million. The issue of our
official kit provider, Harambee Stars forthcoming clash against
Guinea Bissau and many others will be discussed in that meeting” he
noted.
Mwendwa also disclosed that for easier
administration, the Federation will relocate from Nyayo Stadium to
Kasarani’s Fifa Goal Project within six months.
‘All football activities, he added, including Kenya Premier League secretariat ,
coaching ,and the referee’s body will be housed under one roof at Kasarani Goal Project within six months for easier communication and avoid wrangles as witnessed there before “
