Talks by Football Kenya Federation (FKF) and the Kenyan Premier League Limited (KPL) over the composition of the top flight league ended in a stalemate after both groups failed to agree.
Members of KPL walked out of the heated meeting as FKF officials went ahead and passed a resolution endorsing an 18 team premier league. The KPL members walked out after the third round of the meeting where the FKF chairman Sam Nyamweya ordered for vote to break the stalemate.
KPL chairman Ambrose Rachier said this was not an issue that needed to be put to a vote but supposed to be done through consensus building and maintained that they were for 16 team league.
Nyamweya said it was rude for the KPL members to walk out of the meeting and suggested that they vote as a way of breaking the ice after they had disagreed.
The FKF supremo said they will write a report to brief the government and the world governing football body FIFA about what conspired in the
meeting.
Sports minister Hasan Wario had ordered both sides to come up with a solution by the end of today (Wednesday, February 18) and warned of unspecified consequences if they fail to agree.
“We shall be surprised for the minister to disband the federation after we complied with his orders for a local solution where unfortunately KPL walked out on us,” said Nyamweya.
