A good number of foreign-based Uganda Kobs stars will miss this Saturday’s Caf U-23 tournament/Olympic qualifier against Rwanda.
Kobs coach Micho Sredojevic, who also doubles as Uganda Cranes tactician, had hoped to use some of their experience to negotiate the road to Senegal, where the championship will be held.
“We have tried anything possible to bring in Yunus Sentamu from Tunisia (CS Sfaxien) and other players but it was not possible since game is not on official Fifa date,” Micho told local media ahead of the weekend clash.
“Only Aucho (Khalid – Gor Mahia) is still pending. We are waiting for him to be released by his club and hope to succeed.”
The Serbian had hoped to have the Lebanon-based pair of Richard Kassaga (Salam FC) and Denis Guma (Al Ahed) as well as Shafiq Batambuze (Sofapaka).
But the Serbian coach will be pleased to note that goalkeeper Salim Jamal, who plies his trade at Sudanese giants El Merreikh, is available.
The team are camping at Africa Bible University in Lubowa, off Entebbe Road. They leave for Kigali on Friday.
The winners of the two legged encounter play Egypt in the final qualifying round for a place at the 2015 Caf U23 Championship in Senegal later this year.
The top three from the championship will represent Africa at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio, Brazil.
