Former Proline player Imam Isaac Bumbuli is organising a sports disability gala in which he will launch the first ever Amputee soccer team in East Africa.
Mbubuli a founder trainer with Proline Soccer Academy in 2005 lost his left leg but his dream of making a name in football is still bright.
The gala that is slated for 25th – 29th September 2016 at Madibira Primary School Sports grounds in Busia district is intended to promote the sports talents of people living with disabilities in Uganda and it is through it that he will introduce and launch Amputee Soccer.
‘It’s an ideal that i developed shortly after losing my leg in 2013 because it’s football that I have lived for all my life ,’ he told soka25east.com
“Am looking at promoting sport amongst the disabled ,but my major objective will be to introduce this game as a way through which we can earn a livelihood as people with disabilities,” he added.
The event will have games like athletics,wheel chair basket ball,sitting volleyball,sit ball,table tennis, para -rowing and the major event of the day; Amputee Soccer.
“I have already established a team in kampala, Bumbuli Amputee Soccer Team,and it will joined by three others including one from MRC UPDF army barracks in Mubende,”he added.
The 5 days’ event will be run by Uganda Paralympic Committe in conjunction with National Council of Sports and Disability Sports Associations.
‘I call upon all people of good will to come and support us in this cause.I extend my sincere vote of thanks to Mr.Lawarance Mulidwa, the FUFA honorary president and Mr.Kato Hussein,one of the Proline Football Team managers for the support towards this event and my dream and ideal to form Amputee teams in Uganda from which we shall establish a Uganda national team to represent Uganda at the Paralympic games in 2020.’
Bumbuli says that the challenges are many but he is determined to work with all the concerned people to make sure that people with disabilities get more involved in sports
