FUFA has confirmed that a minute of silence will be observed in memory of the departed Uganda’s netball star player Harriet Apako before kickoff of the African Nations Championship qualifier between Uganda and Sudan at Nakivubo stadium.
The development was confirmed after this morning’s pre-match meeting held at the match venue in Kampala.
‘‘The two teams will observe a minute of silence before kickoff; the match commissioner has accepted our request for this brief but significant ceremony for our sports legend. The Uganda Cranes players will also wear black armbands’’ FUFA Spokesperson Ahmed Hussein has told the federation website.
Apako who played in the 2015 Netball World cup in Australia, passed away on Thursday morning and will be laid to rest today in Kaberamaido on Sunday.
Meanwhile FUFA President Moses Magogo flanked by his second deputy Darius Mugoye together with National Team’s coordinator Patrick Ntege paid a courtesy visit to Africa Bible University Lubowa on Friday where the National team has been camping.
To motivate the players further, Magogo promised them a bonus of USD 1000 in case they qualify for CHAN 2015 in Rwanda.
