Federation of Uganda Football Associations, FUFA, has on Monday morning unveiled Azam TV as the new title sponsors of the Top tier
premier league. The premier league has been rebranded to Azam Premier League. The event took place at Kampala Serena hotel.
The deal is worth $1.9M (Ush. 5.4 Billion); each club in the league will benefit with a $21,500 ( UShs60m) per season. Azam Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Rhys Torrington was present to handover the dummy cheque to the FUFA President, Eng. Moses Magogo and and Chairman, Uganda Premier League, Mr.Denis Mbidde.
“This is a great day for us, a great day for football in Uganda. We are not near to bring in the dollars but we are here to stay”, remarked Mr.Torrington. He added, “We have invested $ 4M in the state of the art outside broadcast facilities to cover sports in Uganda and employ 30 Ugandans in this period”
This spells the termination of the previous relationship with Uganda Super League Limited and Supersport. “Our relationship with USLL takes immediate termination. This is a bold step in Uganda’s football. I thank Azam TV for the sponsorship and urge all the clubs and other
stake holders to co-operate. League football remains an important aspect of football. The 16 clubs are the apex of Uganda’s football”- FUFA president
