Gabon played to a goalless draw against Mali in their 2018 World Cup qualifying campaign match played at Stade du 26 Mars in Bamako, Mali on Saturday night.
Both attacking forces failed to find the net of their opponents despite several attempts. Dortmund’s Pieere-Emerick Aubameyang missed several chances to give Gabon much needed goal but struggled to find back of the net on several occassions.
Mali had started the match with an intention of getting an early goal and Marego swang in a cross from the left but Ecuele Manga cleared ball and reduced pressure from the Malians.
Meye Me Ndong also failed to find the net for Gabon with his freekick just outside the 18 yard box missing the goal by inches. Other chances of the match saw Wague block Aubamenyang’s shot from finding the target after he was set up by Evouna.
Tandjigora later had a clear chance to put Gabon ahead but his effort went wide.The introduction of Engonga, Ze Onbo could not help change the scoreline for visiting Gabon.
In the last minutes Mali forwards posed threat in attack but were poor infront of goal which resulted the match end goaless as Gabon struggled to find back their rythm.
The result saw Mali scooping their first point of the qualifying campaign in a dissapointing performance that saw a section of fans calling for the national team coach to step down.
Gabon moved to second position of Group C with two points from two games.
