The Gambia Football Federation (GFF) has appointed Tom Saintfiet as the senior national team coach on a nine-month contract.
Saintfiet arrived in Gambia on Monday and is expected to be officially unveiled on today (Thursday )before starting preparations for September’s Afcon qualifier against Algeria at home.
Former Togo coach linked with Gambia job
“The executive committee of the Gambia Football Federation wishes to inform the general public that in consultation with the Honorable Minister of Youth and Sports, the service of Mr Tom Saintfiet has been secured as the senior national team coach of the Gambia for a period of nine months,” GFF said in a statement.
Speaking to www.soka25east.com after the appointment Saintfiet was upbeat “I am glad to have joined Gambia and i belive i have alot to offer the country as we prepare for the African Cup of nations qualifiers especially the first game against Algeria”
“Its am happy got a great reception and reassurance of support in the course of doing my work to get positive results”Saintfiet said.
Tom Saintfiet has Formerly coached African sides Namibia, Zimbabwe, Ethiopia, Malawi and Togo, the Gambia job is Saintfeit’s sixth coaching commitment with an African team inside 10 years.
He also had brief stints with the national teams of Trinidad and Tobago, Bangladesh and Yemen.
