A 26-year-old former Pencha FC of Gambia player died while trying to cross the Mediterranean Sea to find a better life in Europe,officials said on Tuesday
Hamidou Bojang met his dead in Libyan waters in his attempt to cross over Mediterranean Sea to Italy.
The sensational footballer was part of the players called-up for pre-selection training for the famous side Serrekunda West Zonal team in 2015 that went ahead to win that years championship.
A graduate from St.Augustine’s Senior School left Gambia to Mauritania where he spent some time to become one of many African migrants taking the dangerous route to Europe from Libya for better life in Europe,The Observer reported.
“He was a very good person, a devoted Muslim. Hamidou respected everyone and he was so closed to me. He was always in my room. I will miss him so much and I pray that his soul rest in peace,” Musa Sanneh, a close friend and one-time coach to Hamidou.
Gambians represent the fourth-largest group of arrivals to Italy by number according to the International Organization for Migration.
