George Lwandamina returns as Zesco United Coach on three-year deal
George Lwandamina has been confirmed as Zesco United ‘s Coach , returning for a second stint in charge at the club.
Lwandamina, replaces Tenant Chembo after leaving Yanga in Tanzania , and has signed a Three-year contract.
George won two League titles and one Barclays Cup during his first spell, which ended before the close of the 2016 season.
George has to impress and his predecessor has left him a slot in the group stages of the CAF Champions League and a good position in the super league without a loss after three games. He should promise exactly the same things he promised in his first stint.
My Thoughts
He is undoubtedly a very good man Coach, he gets people to play for him. He is such good value. The media love him, even if they have had fallings out. It is that time for the journalists to brace themselves and face George again.
He understands how to talk to the fans, make the players motivated and play the media. He is a mover and a shaker, and the Super League is better for having him back.
Bwezani talked to the General Secretary of Zesco United who confirmed his arrival in the country and hinted that there was no assistant for now who is confirmed but George will be given an opportunity to get his own assistants.
The General Secretary, Richard Mulenga said of George Lwandamina: “We are happy we have got our man and remains a hugely popular figure at the club and everyone here looks forward to working with him again. He has signed s three-year contract and he will have to get his own assistants. We had hoped TC would stay but after his resignation, Mr. George Lwandamina will choose his own”
Lwandamina first arrived at Zesco United in 2014, season after guiding Red Arrows to the Barclays Cup trophy.
He is also known to have managed Green Buffaloes to runners-up finishes in 2003, 2004, 2006 and 2007. During the 2017 season, he also doubled as Head Coach for the senior Zambia National team. His relationship with Zesco United soured in 2016, it increasingly troubled and he quit after seeing off his contract.
The General Secretary is elated to have him back at Zesco United. He added: “I am delighted to welcome him back to Zesco United . His continued success, drive and ambition made him the outstanding candidate. You should know that he was not the only one who was chasing for this top job. ”
“It is our aim to keep the club moving forward to achieve greater success in the future and George is our number one choice as we believe he is the right Coach to do just that.”
Lwandamina will return to a squad which contains some familiar faces, with Jacob Banda , David Odiambo Owino, Jackson Mwanza, Kondwani Mtonga and Fackson Kapumbu still regulars, while Misheck Chaila also remain on the books.
Jesse Were told Soka25east: “He’s a great Coach, I’ve said it before, and I’m very fortunate to have worked under him before. As long as it’s good for the team it’s good for all us.
Asked about his form coming back, Jese Were was very clear : “The season is just starting and you don’t expect one to be on top of his form at the start of the season. We shall get there. ”
Zesco United takes on Lusaka Dynamos in a week one rescheduled encounter on Wednesday afternoon in Lusaka at Sunset Stadium, which has come too early for George, but he will definitely be in the team in week six as they play at home against Power Dynamos at home. That will be a cracker.
My view is that, George takes a winning mentality everywhere he is gone with him. He creates a spirit in his squads that you can see from the outside is very, strong. He is a top-class Coach, and just this capture changes the whole dimension of the league race.
