Ghana have appointed James Kwesi Appiah to lead their qualifying campaign for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations and the remaining fixtures of 2018 World Cup qualifiers on a two year contract.

According to Kasapa FM, the former Black Stars coach was chosen ahead of ex-France star Willy Sangol and Maxwell Kanodu , who has been the country’s caretaker coach since March.

Appiah received massive support from Ghanaians to make a return after he had poor campaign with the team at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

He is expected to work with former goalkeeper Richard Kingston who is also reported to be the goalkeepers trainer.

Former Black Stars captain,Stephen Appiah has also been named as the new team manager for the team.

The immediate task for Appiah , who led Al Khartoum SC in winning several trophies, is to help the Black Stars qualify for a fourth World Cup, beggining with a tricky visit to Uganda in next match of group qualifies matches.

The coach takes over a team that failed in Africa Cup of Nations qualifying for the finals after failing at the semi-finals stage.

The three-time African champions are now 43rd in the FIFA rankings.
