CONCACAF Champions Mexico defeated Ghana 1-0 in a friendly match played at the Houston’s NRG Stadium in the United States of America on Thursday morning.
Ghana started the match on the front foot with Abdul Waris hitting the upright and Dwamena failing to convert the rebound but quickly lost their pace as the ‘home team’ started to dominate in midfield with quick counter attacks which the Ghana midfield and defence was failing to cope with especially with the pace of Jesus Molina as Mexico replied with a header off the bar.
John Baye had a tough time to keep up with the runners in his left back position but it was youngster Thomas Agyepong who was being out paced in the centre of defence with Harrison Afful having had to bail him out on some occassions.
Mexican’s counter attacks finally paid off when Sivasspor defender John Boye brought Elias Henandez in the box resulting in a penalty which was superbly converted by the victim.
Kwesi Appiah rang changes in the second half which saw David Accam come in for Agyepong, Jerry Akaminko for Harrison, and Mohammed Abu for Sackey which allowed player if the day Raphael Dwamena push up from a left back position which he handled well.
The changes only stabilised Ghana’s play but they failed to convert chances despite some beautiful play on both flanks with Asamoah Gyan missing a point blank chance moments after he had missed another chance to pull parity in the dying minute as his header went went wide.
Ghana will face USA in another international friendly on 1st July at the same venue.
